Our friends at Primary make the soft solid-color basics you probably already own in six colors, and every Halloween they put out hundreds of free no-sew costume how-tos built on top of them. This year two of them are ours: a ravioli and a chicken nugget.
Both are genuinely doable. Think: felt or foam, a hot glue gun, and a Primary base outfit you may already have in a drawer.
The Ravioli
Two stuffed squares of tan felt worn sandwich-board style over a white outfit, with a red felt blob on a headband for the sauce. Sized for kids, and about as low-effort as a homemade costume gets.

Then dinner that’s just as easy: our Spinach and Cheese Ravioli is the same shape, minus the felt.
The Chicken Nugget
Two nugget shapes cut from upholstery foam, covered in yellow faux sherpa and joined at the shoulders and sides. Golden, slightly lumpy, immediately recognizable. This one’s built for babies, so it’s a good first-Halloween option.

For pre-trick-or-treating sustenance, our Chicken Super Nuggets sneak veggies right into the nugget itself.
And if your kid wants something quirkier…
Kids commit hard and they commit specifically, so if yours has landed on something else entirely, Primary has a whole lineup of food costumes worth exploring. And you can always browse our plates for whatever they’re loyal to this month.
If what they want doesn’t exist yet, Primary runs a free Costume Concierge through Halloween. Email DIYEasy@primary.com or call or text 1-833-DIY-EASY, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm ET. Tell them what your kid dreamt up, and a real person sends back instructions and a materials list.
