We set best-in-class standards for infant formula — testing every batch for 500+ toxins, contaminants and microbiological pathogens.

To us, transparency means action: always tested, every result shared.

Our promise: every batch is independently tested by an accredited third party lab. And if our results don't meet our standards, we won't sell it. Peace of mind you can trust (and see).

Our voluntary safety standards are informed by leading experts and inspired by the European Union (EU) and other global benchmarks.

At Little Spoon, we set strict standards for heavy metals to ensure our Formula falls at or below set limits. Peace of mind with every serving.

What is PPB?

PPB = parts per billion. Think of parts per billion as 1 drop of water in an Olympic sized swimming pool.

Finished goods test results must fall at or below the Little Spoon limit or we will not sell these products.

Pathogens are microorganisms that can cause illness if present in food. Our standard requires these organisms to be not detected in finished product.

Some bacteria can produce toxins or form heat-resistant spores that survive drying processes used in powdered foods. Little Spoon monitors these organisms at extremely low limits, including voluntary testing for Sulfite-Reducing Clostridia (SRC) at a threshold 10× stricter than international guidance.

What is CFU?

CFU stands for colony forming units, the standard measure scientists use to estimate the number of microorganisms in a sample. Naturally occurring microorganisms are common in many foods — and most are completely harmless (nature is full of microscopic life!). Our standards set extremely low limits as a measure of process hygiene and an important indicator of overall safety.

Indicator organisms are monitored to verify hygienic manufacturing conditions and environmental controls throughout production. These tests help confirm clean processing environments and overall microbiological quality.

The difference starts in
New Zealand’s pristine pastures.

We start with organic whole milk from grass-fed cows in New Zealand
— where clean conditions and rigorous standards set a higher bar.
Because safety and nutrition begin on the farm.

Grass-Fed, Pasture-Raised

Grass-fed cows graze freely 365 days a year on open pastures, where strict farming and animal welfare standards help support high-quality milk production.

Grass-Fed, Pasture-Raised

Dual-Certified
Organic

Our formula meets both USDA Organic and EU Organic requirements, two of the world’s most rigorous organic standards.

Dual-Certified Organic

Whole Milk
Foundation

We begin with organic whole milk, preserving its naturally occurring lactose and milk fats before thoughtful formulation.

Whole Milk Foundation

Why it matters

New Zealand cows graze outdoors 3x longer and eat up to 8x more grass than cows in the typical U.S. grain-fed, barn-confined dairy industry — helping ensure clean, safe milk and a strong nutritional foundation.

Formula Bottle Safety Rules

Your questions, answered.

Not only is our recipe US + EU organic certified, Clean Label Project verified + Certified Pesticide-Free, but every batch is tested again and again—500+ checks for toxins, including heavy metals, plus screenings for pesticides and harmful bacteria. Our test results are publicly available for any parent to view. When it comes to our safety standards, if anything raises an eyebrow, it doesn’t make the can.
Our manufacturing partner has over 25 years of expertise. Each batch undergoes 2,000 safety checks before making its way to our third party lab for testing.
We also keep a strict No-No List: 100+ ingredients you’ll never find in any of our recipes, and you’ll never find corn syrup, palm oil, maltodextrin or other fillers in our formula. Just complete nutrition with everything your baby needs (and nothing they don’t) to grow strong through their first year of life.
Our formula recipe starts with organic, grass-fed whole milk from New Zealand cows raised with space to roam year round and graze in pastures free of synthetic pesticides. We chose a whole-milk base, so babies get more naturally occurring milk fats and fewer added oils—closer to the natural composition of breast milk. Every batch is tested for 500+ toxins, including heavy metals, and held to both US + European organic standards, plus our own strict EU-inspired safety limits. Learn more about our commitment to transparency and our publicly available testing limits.
Organic whole milk naturally contains beneficial milk fats—like milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) components, which is found in breast milk! A whole-milk base gives our formula a naturally mild taste and a fat profile closer to what babies are used to, so we can rely less on added oils while still delivering the nutrition babies need to grow strong through their first year of life.
We searched globally for the very best milk for your baby and found it in New Zealand, where high standards for dairy farming are the norm, not the exception. Our organic whole milk comes from grass-fed cows that graze freely on pasture. Synthetic pesticides and fertilizers are prohibited under organic rules, and the supply chain is closely monitored from farm to finished product. It’s simple: when cows are treated well and fed real grass, the result is exceptional milk. And because we know quality milk is the foundation of quality formula, New Zealand was the clear choice!
Yes! Our complete nutrition formula is crafted to fully nourish babies through their first year of life (0 - 12 months) when prepared + fed as directed.
Yup! Our formula is modeled after the natural balance of breast milk, including a 60:40 whey-to-casein protein ratio and DHA—a fatty acid also found in breast milk that supports brain development. While no formula can replicate breast milk exactly, we focus on giving babies the complete nutrition they need with an expert-crafted recipe grounded in nutritional science.
Yes! Combo feeding with formula + breast milk can offer flexibility while still supporting nourishment, connection and whatever works best for your family.
For safety, we recommend preparing breast milk and formula separately, then combining.
Prep is simple (and safe!) when you follow the instructions on the can.
1. Start with a clean, dry bottle, add water, then scoop in the powder using the scoop provided.
2. Mix well. Never microwave a bottle, as hot spots can burn your baby’s mouth. If warming, always test the bottle’s temp on your wrist before feeding. And for what it’s worth, babies are totally fine with room-temperature bottles.
Our formula booklet has tons of guidance on all things feeding. And as always, you can reach us at [email protected] if you have any questions
We built our subscription to take one thing off your plate, especially if you’re using formula regularly, but you can always order our formula as a one-time purchase.
Subscribing allows you to save 10% off + get free shipping on every order. It shows up right when you need it, with flexible delivery timing, optional rush shipping and full control to pause/skip/adjust/cancel anytime.
Subscribing also makes it easy to transition into whatever comes next—formula now, then meals + snacks as your kid grows (all the way up to age 7-8!).
We’ll ship your formula straight to your door every two weeks—unless you pause, skip, cancel or rush an order. Subscription orders always ship free, while one-time orders ship at a standard $9.99 rate. Exact delivery timing depends on your location and shipping method, but you’ll receive tracking updates along the way so you know exactly when to expect your order.
As required by the FDA, every batch of our infant formula is tested for Salmonella and Cronobacter sakazakii, two pathogens of particular concern in powdered infant formula. We also go beyond FDA requirements by testing for additional bacteria, including Listeria monocytogenes, Bacillus cereus, and Staphylococcus aureus. In addition, each batch undergoes testing for several indicator organisms, such as Enterobacteriaceae and Sulfite Reducing Clostridia (SRC), as well as an Aerobic Plate Count (APC) to assess overall microbiological count. While these indicator tests do not directly detect disease-causing pathogens, they provide an early warning of potential contamination and help verify strong manufacturing and sanitation controls. The SRC test does not directly detect Clostridium botulinum (the bacteria associated with botulism), but it is widely used as a practical surrogate to assess the presence of spore-forming bacteria. Following a powdered infant formula recall in November 2025, SRC testing was added as a recommended industry practice to further strengthen safety assessments. Infant safety is our top priority, and any batch that does not meet our strict microbiological standards is not released for sale.
