At Little Spoon, we build trust through transparency.
Heavy metals + baby food safety can feel like an overwhelming topic. Our aim is to empower you with facts over fear when it comes to keeping your baby safe.
Are you concerned about the headlines on baby food safety?
You’re not alone.
Are you concerned about the headlines on baby food safety?
You’re not alone.
The US currently does not have federal regulations in place for limiting levels of chemical contaminants in baby food. Crazy, we know. So at Little Spoon, we took matters into our own hands.
Every batch of Little Spoon’s baby products is tested by a third-party accredited lab, and no product is sold unless it passes our rigorous testing —period. It's that simple. Peace of mind every parent deserves.
EU Standard for heavy metal testing
Strict testing limits for plasticizers + pesticides
100+ ingredients banned
Certified organic, always
Little Spoon offers a new standard in baby food.
- Traditional shelf stable baby food in the grocery store is pasteurized using high heat to extend the shelf life of the product so it can be made commercially sterile and stored out of refrigeration for up to 2 years.
- Instead of heat, Little Spoon uses high pressure processing (HPP) to kill any harmful bacteria and ensure the safety of our baby food. Our food is perishable and must be kept chilled in the refrigerator.
- We source ingredients from top farm partners across the country and around the world who meet our rigorous standards for quality and safety. All of our partners are certified organic for our Babyblends—this means free of synthetic pesticides and held to a very high standard for farming.
- All Little Spoon products NEVER include a laundry list of over 100 ingredients commonly found in grocery store brands.
- We test every batch of Babyblends for heavy metals: lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium.
- We also test for over 500 other toxins and contaminants such as pesticides, glyphosate, and plasticizers.
- In addition to our own internal testing, we are continuing to partner with Clean Label Project, a third party non-profit organization who also tests our food.
- Little Spoon is the first and only baby food in the US to set strict limits for 500+ toxins and contaminants.
- Our protocols are inspired by the best-in-class European Union (EU) standard and no product is sold unless it passes testing—period. It's that simple.
- You can view standards and results for each of our Babyblends on our website.
Ready to start fresh with baby food you can trust?
Babies,
Parents.
(Because that's what we all deserve)
Overexposure to contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, glyphosate and plasticizers can impact your baby's healthy development and have an impact on your child's healthy brain.
Knowing that heavy metals are naturally occuring and are found in nutritional powerhouse fruits + vegetables that are vital to your child's diet, parents can make a range of choices to help ensure their child's health:
Add variety into your child's diet, incorporating calcium + iron-rich ingredients, nutrients recommended by the AAP to help reduce lead absorption.
Rice is known to have higher levels of organic and inorganic arsenic. In the baby stage, opt for organic grains and seeds like chia, oats or buckwheat. Little Spoon's Babyblends, Biteables and Puffs are all rice-free.
Parents deserve to have trust in the foods that nourish their babies. Purchase from companies like Little Spoon that test their products and release information that supports transparency and trust.
Soil, water and agricultural practices all play a role in the presence of heavy metals, that's why even homemade baby food can have high levels of heavy metals! Ingredients sourced from farms like Little Spoon's partners are USDA certified organic and come from farming partners that practice rigorous measures.
