Are you concerned about the headlines on baby food safety?

You’re not alone.

Baby food news

Are you concerned about the headlines on baby food safety?

You’re not alone.

The US currently does not have federal regulations in place for limiting levels of chemical contaminants in baby food. Crazy, we know. So at Little Spoon, we took matters into our own hands.

Every batch of Little Spoon’s baby products is tested by a third-party accredited lab, and no product is sold unless it passes our rigorous testing —period. It's that simple. Peace of mind every parent deserves.

Little Spoon offers a new standard in baby food.

  • Traditional shelf stable baby food is made using heavy heat to extend the shelf life of the product so it can be made commercially sterile and stored out of refrigeration for up to 2 years.
  • Instead of heat, Little Spoon uses high pressure processing (HPP) to kill any harmful bacteria and ensure the safety of our baby food. Our food is perishable and must be kept chilled in the refrigerator.
  • We source ingredients from top farm partners across the country and around the world who meet our rigorous standards for quality and safety. All of our partners are certified organic for our Babyblends—this means free of synthetic pesticides and held to a very high standard for farming.
  • All Little Spoon products NEVER include a laundry list of over 100 ingredients commonly found in grocery store brands.
  • Every batch of Babyblends are tested against our standards and held until testing results for 555 toxins and contaminants are received and pass our safety standards.
  • Our finished goods test results must fall at or below the following company-dictated levels, or Little Spoon will not sell the products.
  • In addition to our own internal testing, we are continuing to partner with Clean Label Project, a third party non-profit organization.
  • Little Spoon tests all of our baby food for toxins and contaminants including heavy metals, pesticides and plasticizers.
    • Little Spoon tests for 500+ contaminants and toxins in our baby food.
    • Specifically, we will be testing:
      • Heavy metals such as Lead, Arsenic, Cadmium and Mercury.
      • Pesticides + Glyphosate.
        • We test for a total of 548 compounds, including hundreds of pesticide residues like glyphosate.
      • Plasticizers such as BPA and BPS.
    • Public views into our specific testing and limits and results can be found on our website.

Well fed

Babies,

Well informed

Parents.

(Because that's what we all deserve)

Overexposure to contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, glyphosate and plasticizers can impact your baby's healthy development and have an impact on your child's healthy brain.

Knowing that heavy metals are naturally occuring and are found in nutritional powerhouse fruits + vegetables that are vital to your child's diet, parents can make a range of choices to help ensure their child's health:

Add variety into your child's diet, incorporating calcium + iron-rich ingredients, nutrients recommended by the AAP to help reduce lead absorption.

Rice is known to have higher levels of organic and inorganic arsenic. In the baby stage, opt for organic grains and seeds like chia, oats or buckwheat. Little Spoon's Babyblends, Biteables and Puffs are all rice-free.

Parents deserve to have trust in the foods that nourish their babies. Purchase from companies like Little Spoon that test their products and release information that supports transparency and trust.

Soil, water and agricultural practices all play a role in the presence of heavy metals, that's why even homemade baby food can have high levels of heavy metals! Ingredients sourced from farms like Little Spoon's partners are USDA certified organic and come from farming partners that practice rigorous measures.
